Your personal route to musical expression
I've helped over two hundred people on their journeys to musical self-expression, using one-to-one lessons, group workshops, and ongoing programmes of focused mentoring, both in person and via Skype.
The instruments I teach are acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar, drum kit, hand percussion, and keyboard. I also coach in vocal technique, rhythmic embodiment, songwriting, production, arrangement, and digital recording.
I approach all of my work by first understanding a client's ambitions and motivations and then tailoring exercises and methods specifically to that person's musical development and creative fulfilment. Your musical development is a unique and personal path, as our identity and emotions are tightly entwined with our artistic expression. I believe that musicality is an essential part of what it is to be human, that everybody is capable of self-expression through musical creativity, and that the experience of such expression is joyous and life-affirming.
Conventional approaches to music teaching have in many cases hindered or even halted young people's musical development by giving them the belief that they're not musical, that they're tone deaf, or that they can't sing. Even if any of these appears to be the case, none is a permanent condition. They're just temporary states resulting from a lack of musical familiarity; the individual's natural musicality just hasn't yet been nurtured.
